Lemon Mint Detox Water
January. January is a frigid, dreary month and there is just not a lot going on. It’s the month of my sister’s birthday (sorry, Sissy), and well, that’s it. January = eh. So, to make January a little more exciting, like many of you, I have designated January a detox month (is exciting the appropriate word here?). Is there really a better time to detox than the first month of the year? These past weeks have been filled with low calorie, healthy recipes to clear my system of all the gloriousness of the holiday season. Gloriousness = mac and cheese, chocolate, potatoes, meat, drinks, butter, and pretty much all that happens between Thanksgiving Day and New Year’s. It is my most favorite time of year, but my body has paid the price. While weeks of clean eating is not always fun (like I’m ready for some chips and salsa), it sure has its benefits. I am enjoying more energy, quality sleep, and mindful eating practices. But, my absolute FAVORITE part of this month of cleansing has been my Lemon Mint Detox water. “Water,” you say? YES!
Am I really posting a “recipe,” for water? Well, yeah. Obviously, this post is more about my own self-reflection and excitement that I wish to share with you all, but I get it. It’s just water. 🙂
My mom has sworn for all my years that water is the secret to her youthful glow. This water has helped my digestion, flushed my kidneys (I mean, I think), cleared my skin, and BONUS – it tastes GREAT! My dad, a urologist, has always encouraged the use of lemon in my diet, specifically with water, to keep my kidneys clean. So, while I don’t really know what’s going on down there, I have faith that they are showroom new.
Let me take a special moment to really talk about my skin. Now, I don’t want to jinx myself, but I’ve been drinking this for well over a week and I’ve noticed that I need less make up, my breakouts have subsided, and I swear I have dropped a couple of years when I look in the mirror. When our insides are clean, it most definitely shows on the outside.
Enjoy this water as you detox or at any time of year. It is super refreshing and such a nice break from plain ol’ H20!

- 3-4 sprigs fresh mints
